The Wrong Dress

A thought-bubble while I was dancing last night:

Oops - I am wearing the Wrong Dress to dance with you.

These high-street wraparounds are comfortable, washable, practical, and flattering, but they're wraparounds. Perhaps I should have put on the underskirt. Or possibly worn the invisible skin-toned knickers.

For a beginner, this dress was fine, but now my legs are whirling around in a bit more of the fancy stuff sometimes. At least I wasn't wearing holdups, they just make it too obvious.

A couple more pairs of dancing trousers might be in order.

Wearing wraparounds are like playing with fire. They WILL unwrap at the worst possible moment on the dance floor.

Same thing with wraparound tops, too.

Good PSA there, Ms. Hedgehog.

I ought to have learnt from example when a certain tall, elegant professional wore one to perform at the Welsh Centre - the frequent probability of knickers, and the occasionally actual knickers, were quite distracting from the performance. It's not that my wrap dress comes undone - a double knot at the back, and sometimes some tit tape, take care of that - but that they never really wrap far enough in the first place for some people's crazy boleos.

What's PSA?

Don't let the double knot lure you into a false sense of security. Even the toughest knows can come undone and not even intentionally.

I also don't hold much faith in that tape...from what I can tell, all it does is leave sticky goo on your clothing and you still end up exposing yourself.

A psa is a Public Service Announcement and usually something silly you hear on the radio, but yours actually is quite practical.

Yes, sometimes I can feel a partner's, uh, "assets" in some sort of imminent danger of being exposed, usually in close embrace giros, so being the gentleman that I am, I take more care to mitigate the risk.

With (really) close women friends, I will even whisper..."your left boob is about to pop out".

What would you say is the best thing to wear when dancing? I seem to get it wrong again and again - I wear a pencil skirt so tight I can't move my legs, or a full skirt that entirely blocks my lower half from view, or a top that seemed quite respectable until I was pressed up in a close embrace and emerged to show the whole room my cleavage. Advice anyone? I’m running out of clothes! - Charlotte, a hesitant tango obsessive.

Charlotte, so much can go wrong. I think that deserves a Girlie Post to itself. My tango-wear has definitely evolved over time.
